I often wonder what the medical experts truly know about covid-19. I can say for certain that this virus has gone viral! Many seem to think the response is disproportional to the threat it poses whether benign or toxic. We really just don't know!

If officials were concerned about saving lives they'd outlaw rampant environmental destruction. It will kill 100% of us and is a FAR more dangerous threat to our entire existence. Or tobacco, since it kills hundreds of thousands of people a year in the USA alone. Or sedentary lifestyles. Or junk food and fake foods. Or dozens of other things that are more deadly.

A devastating financial effect will be shouldered by mom-and-pop stores. Large companies rejoice as the capitalism that defines America is further concentrating power among them. Amazon, who paid no taxes on hundreds of billions of dollars in income. Walmart. Basically, the who's who of exploiting workers.

This is not good. The middle class erodes as we are ensnared by one-click ordering, free shipping, returns-on-a-whim, and same-day deliveries. It has essentially taken away our "right to choose" by poisoning the waters for every business that doesn't comply. Inevitably, it will suppress wages across the blue-collar work force. This is indentured servitude in the digital age.

Or consumers could courageously say "NO!" with a set of conditions that companies must meet before getting our business back. Everyone has been inconvenienced by this pandemic so a few weeks of "suffering" from a boycott are inconsequential.

We do a grave disservice to our communities when we don't support the local economy. Every dedicated artisan and merchant at the heart of our cities and towns is certainly more deserving than some fatcat buying his 7th vacation home. Local businesses hold the American dream together. They make this country rich. If these entities aren't supported then you will have to pay whatever the big boys say.

We normal-tons have the power but have happily whored it away. It cannot be taken back easily.

Spread the word about boycott month. Declare our independence. Protest is what started this country; it will be what defines it next. We're good at pointless flash mobs and occupy Wall Street nonsense so this should be a breeze. Plus, it would actually make a profound difference.
