A sincerely flattering compliment would be when someone says you elevate (insert task
here, however mundane or nonsensical) to an art form.
One would hope all experts would be considered artists in their chosen profession
or endeavor. Lacking that, at least striving for it?
All said, many people could call themselves artists.
Or do we equate artists with a higher level of performance aside
from proficiency, knowledge, or other tangible metrics?
What if an artist requires a model or image
to copy or duplicate - are they less of an artist compared
to someone who conceives it entirely in their mind?
Is one more creative or skilled?
Consistency keeps handmade items orderly and neat.
Matching dinner plates can only be so organic before they don't stack properly.
Sloppy knitting results in asymmetry.
Assembling a bunch of rings into chainmaille doesn't mean it'll be done well
just because it's easy. Basic minimums - each craft has them.
In jewelry, some creatives are making impossibly complex designs.
CAD and 3-D printing have done wonders. No way
will I do those any time soon, if ever!
There is so much to learn in any of the countless styles, never mind specializing.
Aren't we supposed to feel moved or inspired (in a good way) by the experience or display?
Art speaks for itself.
It shouldn't require a thesis to explain the reasoning.
Being coached to feel a certain way...might as well read the cliff notes.
This artist thing is relative. Most people have at least one relative who is artsy so
osmosis and genes might be the only way I'm getting there. Until such a time,
every once in a while I do create art.
