What originally started as a search for chain nose pliers landed a prized set of cutters instead. An experienced seller was asking about half price for what they said were two new identical pliers. My offer was accepted after some back-and-forth and I paid less than half price.

Someone incorrectly transcribed the part number and no one cross-checked it. Leaving out one number made all the difference. What I got were cutters, clearly the same ones in the picture, though they were not what I bid on. Wait, just exactly what are these?

I had looked for this particular (base) model cutter previously. They cut perfectly flat and smooth on one side with minimal bevel on the other, designed for thin wires in hard-to-reach areas.

An internet search for the product number turned up zero records. ZERO. Though the base version is a current production item, none of the add-on letters could be found. I found them because I wasn't looking, go figure.

It turns out these are custom cutters for hardened stainless and memory wire. They are made from tungsten and could literally cut through regular cutters or pliers. Holy shitballs, Batman! To get this version you submit a wire sample and answer a bunch of questions. If all is well they are manufactured to precise specifications.

Until he used them to cut the edge of a music CD and one side of the jaw flew off, never to be found.

After knowing what to look for, I found lesser versions in the ~$180 range. By extrapolation, these are the legendary supercutters so precious and expensive as to be mythical. They are sickening overkill for my needs yet they will not suffer for the job whatsoever. This was entirely unexpected, the tool gods generous for the umpteenth time.

After a partial refund for the listing error, I reluctantly sold one at a can't-say-no price and wanted them back immediately. My buddy didn't even need them but realized the unique opportunity. Everyone walked away happy.

Until he used them to cut the edge of a music CD and one side of the jaw flew off, never to be found. It's ironic that I got my wish, keeping both sets after refunding his money. The manufacturer has been uncooperative so I'm not holding my breath. You can see the tool review here.
