AI-generated text and other things have been all over the news recently. It has infiltrated nearly every aspect of commerce and arts, sometimes beneficially. But being such a powerful tool, it has eschewed actual intelligence or common sense in its warpath through our psyche. AI should stand for anti-intelligence in many cases, not artificial intelligence.

I was wondering why, suddenly, many descriptions on a popular online auction site seemed to be written by the same person (a gushing idiot, to be precise). Previously, people relied on their questionable photos and poor descriptions. The bad photos remain but the description is managed by AI.

It takes a few key words from the raw listing and writes away. These sellers can't write an accurate description to start with so it's still a bad description. No amount of machine intelligence will make up for such shortcomings; it can only amplify what's already there.

While I haven't used it, its results are quite obvious. I would normally say shut your piehole if you haven't seen, used, or done it. But this is different. I noticed it without knowing about it, that's how insulting it is.

Maybe AI picks up on the user's ineptitude and rewards them with something equally as laughable? Same outcome either way. AI only makes these people less intelligent and functional, which didn't seem possible since they weren't firing on all cylinders anyway.

People who can't write a description for themselves won't be able to describe what they want written about. They'll AGAIN neglect the important things: dimensions, condition (issues), hallmarks or other markings, weight, etc. It all started long before they didn't verify the information via a quick internet search. Basically, whatever AI puts out...I have never seen such an onslaught or abundance of lies!

Who owns the copyright for the text, images, or other information that AI generates? When made by people it is considered intellectual property and afforded the protections of law. When AI plagiarizes intellectual property, what kind of legal conundrum will that create? The situation is evolving rapidly. The big publishers and media companies are taking notice.

AI could be a fantastic tool in the hands of competent, intelligent people. Mankind is on a slippery slope for sure! It's like giving a cache of automatic weapons to a bunch of angry, violent children on a sugar diet.

Algorithms have all but ensured we remain thoughtless, complacent, and passive when it comes to social media feeds or targeted ad. Using AI so we can be equally as useless in our everyday life and decisions is the next logical step though it's horribly homogenizing. Why lift a finger when computers will do it for us?

Perhaps there should be a test to certify people before they use such powerful tools. Trolls on social media would die out. Lots of false information would cease to propagate. Then again, think of all the rage this would cause in miscreants. Let's hope AI doesn't assist their vengeful nature.
