The legalese and regulations regarding handmade precious metal jewelry and associated items can be found on the USA government's website (
https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CFR-2012-title16-vol1/pdf/CFR-2012-title16-vol1-part23.pdf
). It applies to every entity, person, or company involved in the trade:
CFR (Code of Federal Regulations), Title 16, Chapter I, Subchapter B, Part 23, Section 23.3
Misuse of the terms "hand-made," "hand-polished," etc.
These guides apply to jewelry industry products...and articles...fabricated from precious metals (gold, silver and platinum group metals), precious metal alloys, and their imitations.
(a) It is unfair or deceptive to represent, directly or by implication, that any industry product is hand-made or hand-wrought unless the entire shaping and forming of such product from raw materials and its finishing and decoration were accomplished by hand labor and manually-controlled methods which permit the maker to control and vary the construction, shape, design, and finish of each part of each individual product.
Note to paragraph (A):
As used herein, "raw materials" include bulk sheet, strip, wire, precious metal clays, ingots, casting grain, and similar items that have not been cut, shaped, or formed into jewelry parts, semi-finished parts, or blanks.
The correct legal terminology has been defined for hand-assembled, hand-altered, hand-crafted, hand-formed, handmade, etc. Most jewelry manufacturers use these words improperly so understand their methods to separate fact from fiction. Simply, the highest majority of supposed handmade jewelry is not, in fact, handmade according to the law. It's no fun buying something under false pretenses.
My precious metal items epitomize the concept of handmade and it's only the beginning of their fascinating story. I make everything including bullion, alloys, solders, raw materials, findings, and finished products. They are literally 100% handmade
from the atomic level!
When you place an order it may exist as a mixture of dust and grain. It undergoes a drastic transformation before being forged into your special piece. Shop here for stunning handmade jewelry with an unmatched pedigree.
